FLORIDA 2012 PRIMARY ELECTION STATEMENT
We were hoping our Cuban American and Puerto Rican brothers would disregard their leadership lead to support anti-immigrant Mitt Romney. The Florida primary results show the total disregard a good majority of Cuban Americans have for conservative Mexican Americans, South Americans, and Central Americans who aspire, like Cuban Americans, to be an integral part of this country. This vote shows the lack of solidarity with the majority of Latinos, even while Cuban Americans and Puerto Rican serve themselves with the big spoon when it is time to distribute the political and economic/business opportunities/leverage generated by the critical mass of Latinos, mainly Mexican Americans (65%), but also Central Americans and South Americans. These latter don’t have the same opportunities of citizenship that Cuban Americans and Puerto Ricans enjoy, and thus, in general, Cuban American put aside the priorities of the majority of Latinos. For a long time we have put the Latino agenda in the hands of Cuban Americans, and look where we are. It has been a tremendous disaster; we could not be more despised and disadvantaged in this country, in spite of our numbers and great contributions.
The overwhelming vote of Cuban Americans and Puerto Ricans for anti-Latino immigrant Mitt Romney should open the eyes of conservative Latino Republicans not belonging to the Cuban and Puerto Rican communities, to the fact that we do not count on their support for our political, economic/business agenda, and thus, they should not count on us, except on a previously negotiated basis on which we, Mexican Americans, hold our votes and power in the hands of our own leadership. For this, we must accelerate the pace to build this Mexican American leadership that this major ethnic group needs to hold to represent the interests of its constituency within the Republican party. No more leaving our issues in the hands of other “Latinos”. If the Republican Party wants the votes of the largest Latino Group, Mexican Americans, and its brothers Central and South Americans, they will need to negotiate with us, not with Cuban or Puerto Rican Americans. In Light of the Cuban American leadership support for anti Latino immigrant Mitt Romney (“illegal immigrant” is a code word for Latino immigrants, and Cuban Americans fool themselves if they think the Latino haters do not put us all in the same basket – as as small sample, you just had to hear the expressions of disgust within the Georgia Republican party when Mel Martinez was head of the RNC; Latino students at GA state reported that a professor coming from Florida said in class, in front of all the students, that Miami was a third world country infested with Cubans).
We welcome the friendship and brotherhood of those few Cubans and Puerto Ricans who embrace us, and who will accept our rightful leadership role. The Republican Party should know, and we will make it evident through our organization and future coalitions, that we will not align with Cuban Americans and Puerto Ricans any longer, except when there are clear mutual interests, and that Mexican Americans no longer consider themselves represented within the party by Cuban Americans and Puerto Ricans. If the Republican Party wants the Mexican American community’s support, the by far largest Latino group, they need to have one of us, Mexican American.
Republicans must acknowledge that if Mexican Americans are marginalized, we will not fulfill our potential as a key pillar to America’s economic and political future in the world. America will be poor if Mexican Americans are poor and powerless. We will not allow this. To the innuendo and racist rhetoric through the construction of code-alkaloid language such as “illegals” and “Anchor babies”, we will respond with harder work, greater love for this country, and greater organization. We will not give up the Republican Party because these are our values, but we will support only those who embrace us. We will identify and clearly explain to Republicans that they have substituted Republican values for hate, and that the “hate coalition” which has taken over the party uses hate to hide and distract from the fact that they are big spenders, big government, big brother policy. They use a minor civil violation to dehumanize “some” immigrants. Those who call themselves Reaganites do not belong in the immigrant hate coalition. We Mexican Americans are more than willing to work hard to contribute to build the bright future of this country, and warmly embrace all of those who embrace us. Likewise, we will be well aware of those who do not.

SOMOS REPUBLICANS is happy to announce it’s endorsement of Abel Maldonado for California Congress. Maldonado is a Republican Mexican-American politician who has a reasonable approach to the immigration issue for the Republican Party.
Maldonado proudly states on his website:
“I will never forget where I come from, the fields of Santa Maria, I will never forget who put me in office, the people of the central coast, and I will never forget whose money government spends. It’s the people’s money and I will never let the people down.”
Maldonado has never wavered nor has he flip flopped on the immigration issue for political expediency or self-serving ways. He has never kicked Latinos or immigrants down during the worst anti-immigrant eras of our time (post Arizona’s harsh anti-immigrant SB 1070 law). He has always supported our Latin youth and the DREAM Act.

Phoenix, AZ — As the Florida primaries come to a close, it is time for the Republican Presidential Candidates to know the real pulse of the Latino community in the Midwestern and Southwestern parts of the United States. SOMOS REPUBLICANS became the largest Hispanic Republican group in the nation because we were the only Hispanic GOP grassroots organization in the country to stand tall against Arizona’s harsh anti-immigrant law when all other Latino GOP groups sided with the draconian law. We believe Senator Marco Rubio might help with Florida, but he will damage the Party throughout the rest of the country since he does not hold mainstream Latino political views. Unfortunately, Rubio has denied support to our children via the DREAM Act multiple times, and he has gone so far as to embrace Arizona’s draconian anti-immigrant law at a time when Latinos needed him the most. Rubio chose to kick Latinos while they were down during one of the most difficult Latin eras of our time.
In order for the Republican Party to win over more Latinos in states such as Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and California, they must choose a Vice Presidential candidate who has never wavered on the immigration issue. Former Lt. governor Abel Maldonado can help the Gingrich campaign win over Western key swing states with regard to Latinos. Maldonado is a Republican Mexican-American politician who has a reasonable approach to the immigration issue for the Republican Party. Unfortunately, Cuban-Republicans in Florida who endorsed Mitt Romney are out of touch with the majority of Latinos across the country since they benefit from Cuban Amnesty under the Cuban Adjustment Act, and they do not need legal immigration reform.
Gingrich should pick a stalwart as he mobilizes in the Midwest and the Southwest. If Gingrich communicates to business owners, and the construction, restaurant, hotel, and agricultural industries that benefit from competitive immigrant labor, that he supports comprehensive, humane immigration reform, and chooses a credible advocate such as Abel Maldonado as a partner in this endeavor, he will receive significant support. It is time to heal for a stronger voice on immigration reform via Gingrich and Maldonado.

Hispanic Republicans to Senator Marco Rubio: Tell Mitt Romney to denounce affiliations with Kris Kobach and FAIR

Phoenix, AZ — SOMOS REPUBLICANS is rejecting Senator Marco Rubio’s position when he stated Mitt Romney is not anti-immigrant. Indeed Romney is anti-immigrant when he chose to receive the endorsement of Kris Kobach who is responsible for almost all anti-DREAM Act and anti-immigrant laws that have swept our nation. Rubio is out of line to demand that Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stop airing a truthful political ad in Florida calling Romney anti-immigrant. Romney promised to veto the DREAM Act.
Somos Republicans advocates for policies that promote legal migration rather than undocumented migration, and we reject being lied to. Our immigration system is broken. Our dysfunctional immigration system was last revamped in 1986 and has not provided for legal mechanisms to bring in needed workers in many industries. We have about 8 million undocumented workers, because there was “no line to get behind”. Speaking of the undocumented as “criminals” and simply enforcing a broken law when many of them are parents of United States citizens is not only anti-immigrant — it is anti-American. Latinos will no longer accept the deceiving language espoused by many who have taken protectionist and restrictionist positions when they simply call for the deportation of the ten million. Regretfully, it seems that Romney has only received immigration policy advice from Kris Kobach who is associated with groups like Federation Americans Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) labeled correctly by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group.
Somos Republicans is the voice of thousands of Latinos that find a home within the Republican Party, yet such home is becoming unwelcoming. Somos Republicans rejects the efforts to attempt to divide Latinos and disregard our voice. We ask Rubio to be the voice of reason, the voice of compromise and to hear the voice of many conservative Americans, many in the business community who know that the immigration system is antiquated and must be reformed to promote legal migration and make us globally competitive for the 21st century.
Mitt Romney’s position on undocumented immigration and the DREAM Act demonstrates that he fails as a leader to understand the most basic premise; that the system is broken and that enforcing a broken law is as unjust as enforcing an unjust law. We remember with much sadness the time in our nation’s history when “separate but equal ” was the law that was enforced.
Somos Republicans is asking Rubio to have the courage to confront Romney on his ill advised stance on undocumented migration, for the good of our party and most importantly for the good of our nation. We would like to see Rubio ask Romney to denounce Kris Kobach and FAIR before the Florida Primary elections.

Latino / Hispanic Republicans: You may as well support ObamaCare if you are going to support RomneyCare

Hispanic Republicans: You may as well support ObamaCare if you are going to support RomneyCare
Phoenix, AZ – The largest Hispanic Republican group in the nation, SOMOS REPUBLICANS, cannot support RomneyCare. Supporting RomneyCare is no different than supporting ObamaCare. Tea Party supporters mobilized strongly when ObamaCare was passed and voting for Mitt Romney would give them no leg to stand on in the general elections.
According to RedState:
“Romneycare is the antecedent to Obamacare. It dramatically distorted the free-market of private insurance; it dumped a few hundred thousand people onto federally funded Medicaid; it set up gov’t-run exchanges that disincentivize success and offer larger subsidies than those proposed in Obamacare; it placed unreasonable mandates on employers to fund their employee’s healthcare. The net result of Romneycare was the archetypical outcome of every statist policy; the price of a vital service was purposely distorted as a means of enticing more people to become dependent upon government.”
Secondly, Romney also gave his oath to protect a woman’s right to choose and his oath was said with conviction. True pro life supporters do not trust Romney based on his previous support towards Planned Parenthood.
Lastly, Romney has taken a protectionist and isolationist view against immigrants. He is considered one of the most anti-Latino GOP candidates since the Ronald Reagan years. It was because of Reagan that Latinos began to vote in support of the Republican Party. Mitt Romney has helped to destroy the progress that Reagan made within our Latino community. If Romney wins the Republican Primary elections, Hispanic Republicans will write in Ronald Reagan on the ballot.

Somos Republicans Endorse CA State Assembly Candidates Rocky Chavez and Melissa Melendez
BOTH CANDIDATES UNDERSTAND THE SEVERITY OF FISCAL STRUGGLES OF CALIFORNIA, AND REPRESENT A NEW LOOK FOR THE CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN PARTY
With the advent of the Great Recession continuing to effect the economic rebound in California, SOMOS REPUBLICANS – the largest Republican Latino organization in the United States – proudly endorses Marine Corps Veteran, former Oceanside City Councilman, and former Acting Secretary of the California Department of Veteran Affairs Rocky Chavez for the 76th State Assembly District, and Navy Veteran, and Lake Elsinore City Councilwoman Melissa Melendez for the 67th State Assembly District.
Chavez and Melendez have served our country honorably within two different branches of the United States military, and fought for our freedoms we cherish as Americans on the battlefield.
Somos Republicans believes their consistent, conservative records of fiscal reform, executive leadership, and regulatory reform will guide them to repair California’s budgetary and political gridlock. We believe Chavez and Melendez represent the ever-growing diversity within the California Republican Party, and are exactly what we need at this critical point in our state’s history.
Somos Republicans believes that within a post-Prop 14 political climate, the advantages Chavez and Melendez bring to the Republican Party through their community accomplishments and conservative approach to governing, are best-equipped in bringing new voters, across the political spectrum, into voting for a Republican – perhaps for the first time.

Largest Latino Republican Group in the Nation Endorses Newt Gingrich
For Immediate Release: January 16, 2012
info@somosrepublicans.com
Phoenix, AZ – The largest Hispanic Republican group in the Country is endorsing Newt Gingrich as the 2012 Republican Nominee. We believe Newt Gingrich knows the importance of the Latino community. 50 million Latinos comprise 16% of our country’s population today. Half of our country’s population growth in the next 20 years will be generated by the growth in the Latino population. Latinos have become a key driver of our nation’s future. While the other candidates seem oblivious to this fact, Newt Gingrich has been working hard for many years to include American Hispanics in the overall conversation for a better America.
We are also sad to see Jon Huntsman withdraw from the Republican primary election race because we believe he took a humanitarian approach in supporting children via the Federal DREAM Act. We are disappointed in learning that Huntsman will support Mitt Romney which is unfortunate because Romney takes an non-humanitarian approach to the DREAM Act and legal immigration reform. Recently 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney stated he will veto the DREAM Act, therefore, SOMOS REPUBLICANS will veto Romney at the polls.

Phoenix, AZ — SOMOS REPUBLICANS is announcing an action alert to national members of our group. We are asking our members to call Representatives Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart to express Latino Republican outrage at their betrayal of the Latino community at large, by their support of Mitt Romney, the most anti-immigrant Republican presidential candidate. Latinos are solidarian with Cuban Americans and the Amnesty policy towards them, and we expect reciprocity in their support for a reasonable and decent treatment of the current wave of immigrants. The current state of affairs denigrates all Latinos, including Cuban-Americans. Mitt Romney is on record for wanting to deport our equivalents of “Elian Gonzalez” and he stated he would veto the DREAM Act.

Largest Latino Republican Group in the Nation Will Veto Mitt Romney in 2012
Phoenix, AZ — Recently 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney stated he will veto the DREAM Act, therefore, SOMOS REPUBLICANS will veto Romney at the polls. On January 11, Boston, MA Mitt Romney today announced the support of Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach. Unfortunately we believe Kobach has affiliations with hate groups and people who are anti-Semitic and anti-Latino via Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and the John Tanton network.
SOMOS REPUBLICANS is calling for all Floridian Latino Republicans such as Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R- FL) and Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (R – FL) to denounce their support of Mitt Romney since Romney has received support from the architect of all anti-immigrant and anti-DREAM Act laws in the nation. We didn’t support deporting Elian Gonzalez, and we are asking all Latino Republicans in Florida to stop supporting the GOP Presidential candidate who wants to deport our “Elian Gonzalez equivalents.”

New President of SOMOS REPUBLICANS signs off on letter to FBI for investigation of Maricopa Co. Sheriff Office under leadership of Joe Arpaio regarding Ernest M. Atencio

FBI Headquarters Director Robert Mueller 935 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20535-0001
(202) 324-3000Subject: Gulf War Veteran Ernest M. Atencio while in custody of Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Dear Mr. Robert Mueller:
We are seeking outside investigation with regard to the incident of Ernest M. Atencio, a 44-year-old Gulf War veteran who was recently booked into the jail in Phoenix, when he was allegedly tasered and suffered a heart attack according to his family. We have been told that an internal investigation is being carried out, however, we believe the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) should conduct a full investigation with regard to the possible excessive abusive actions by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) under the leadership of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
According to recent news media, his family told local TV station Channel 5 that he was a ‘loving and sweet boy’ who suffered from a mental illness and is now fighting for his life.
Commensurate with the Daily Mail Reporter, one U.S. veteran of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan attempts suicide every 80 minutes, according to new study. The report reveals 1,868 veterans made suicide attempts in 2009 alone. Many veterans face dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, high employment and a loss of military camaraderie after returning from tours.
According to the Pew Hispanic Center, while Latinos make up 9.5 percent of the actively enlisted forces, they are over-represented in the categories that get the most dangerous assignments – infantry, gun crews and seamanship – and make up over 17.5 percent of the front lines. DOD numbers reveal 35,000 non-citizens currently in the active Armed Forces.
The MCSO should have been trained on how to handle war veterans particularly when there is a history of mental illness and they should be vigilant with regard to the excessive abuse of these veterans. We are seeking the help of the FBI. An investigation should be conducted by the FBI in light of the recent findings provided by the feds via the Department of Justice (DOJ).
