5 day countdown to FIRESIDE on IMMIGRATION and ARIZONA COMPACT discussion between prominent Republican Daryl Williams and Arizona Senator Russell Pearce

We still have not heard a response from Russell Pearce.  Here is our follow up email to him.

By not responding, it is no surprise. Perhaps he doesn’t think a FIRESIDE ON IMMIGRATION is important enough to members of the LDS church in his district.  Why would his advisors not advise him to do the right thing?  Here is the email we sent to Pearce below:

Dear Senator Russell Pearce,

We would like to invite you to a Fireside on Utah Compact and Immigration Debate to be held in November. There has been much confusion where numerous Tea Party supporters have said you do not support the Utah Compact at events within the past year. Almost a year ago, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) issued a statement for their support of the _Utah Compact[1]_, a document backed by a broad spectrum of community leaders in Utah. The Church regards the declaration of the Utah Compact as a responsible approach to the urgent challenge of immigration reform.

Since there has been confusion as to where you stand on the immigration issue, we would like to invite you to an event that will clear the record on this confusion, particularly to residents who reside near the Mesa LDS Temple.

As you might already know, Daryl Williams is a prominent individual in the State of Arizona and is a respectable _lawyer[2]_ with a practice in the Biltmore area. Mr. Williams is a conservative Republican. He is a member of the High Council of the Paradise Valley Arizona Stake. He has been a life-long Mormon, served in several bishoprics, on several High Councils, and in many other callings in the Church. His ancestors lived and are buried in Missouri, Nauvoo, and walked across the plains to Utah. He is a scriptorian. Mr. Williams has also written an essay with regard to illegal immigration and believes the answer resides in the free market / Capitalism approach. The essay can be read _here[3]_.

This is an important discussion since much confusion is out there with regard to whether or not you fully support the views of the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Many Mesa residents believe this is important enough to attend as we believe this discussion will clear the confusion and many within the LDS community. If the below date and time will not work for you, we can re-schedule the debate for days between October 29, 2011 through November 5, 2011 that is more convenient to you.

Date: 5 November 2011

Time: 1:00 ? 2:00 pm

LOCATION: MESA PUBLIC LIBRARY

64 E FIRST STREET

MESA, AZ

2ND FLOOR SAGUARO ROOM

(OPEN TO THE PUBLIC)

I can be reached at 480.200.3748 or email us at _info@somosrepublicans.com_ should you have any questions or concerns, or if you want to reschedule the date aforementioned. If you are unable to attend, we will continue with the debate with an empty chair. We hope you will find this important enough to attend.

Kind regards,

DeeDee Garcia Blase

SOMOS REPUBLICANS: SB 1070 defense fund draws donations from across nation (outside sources).

November 1, 2011 by admin

We have known about outside influences helping people like anti-immigrant Senator Russell Pearce.

This is why the November 8, 2011, special elections are crucial.  Russell Pearce has left a dark stain in Arizona’s history when he injected his bigotry into our political landscape.   This is why voting for Jerry Lewis is crucial.  Jerry Lewis will bring the Republican Party back to the Party of Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.

This article in the East Valley Tribune confirms it.  Somos Republicans is quoted:

SB 1070 defense fund draws donations from across nation, globe

By URIEL J. GARCIA Cronkite News Service East Valley Tribune | 7 comments

WASHINGTON – When Gov. Jan Brewer asked private donors last year to help pay legal fees to defend the state and its controversial SB 1070 immigration law against lawsuits, thousands of Arizonans responded.

And so did thousands of people from other states. And other territories and other countries.

Donations to the fund, which totaled $3.8 million as of Sept. 1, have come from all 50 states in the nation, several territories, the District of Columbia and countries as far-flung as Canada, Costa Rica and Micronesia.

<snip>

“I’ve always believed that outside sources were going to fuel these anti-immigrant laws,” said Dee Dee Garcia Blase, founder of Somos Republicans, an Arizona-based conservative Hispanic organization.

“It’s outside influences that are controlling these laws,” said Blase. She pointed to Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who wrote both Arizona’s and Alabama’s immigration law, as an outsider promoting anti-immigrant sentiment in the state.

Among other controversial measures in SB 1070, which passed last year, the law originally let police officers ask suspects for their immigration status if there was reason to believe they were in the country illegally. Opponents said this would have let law enforcement engage in racial profiling.

How Republicans can win 40% of the vote they need in order to win 2012 Presidential elections

How Latino voters will choose in 2012

By DeeDee Garcia Blase

(Featured in Guardian)

<snip>

So, looking to 2012 and the race for the GOP nomination, rather than fight about who can build the tallest electric fence, Republicans have a unique opportunity to win at least the 40% of the Hispanic vote they will need for the upcoming presidential election. GOP presidential candidates need political cover from those Republican senators and representatives who are in safe seats to take on the tough issue of immigration. Those who are secure in their districts (or states) should confront the dysfunctional immigration system head-on with reasonable proposals. After all, several state Republican lawmakers have complained that the immigration system is broken – and they attribute much of the blame to the federal government.

If federal lawmakers, particularly those from the Republican party, can demonstrate their ability to address a difficult issue in a rational way, it will only serve to benefit the economy. And all Americans stand to gain if, instead of having their tax burdens raised, new tax payers can be found and nurtured. Millions of dollars are currently wasted on detaining undocumented immigrants who perform services as nannies, gardeners and fast food workers. Tax payer dollars should be spent smartly in pursuing only the undocumented who do harm to others. Republican lawmakers can win the message war – and Latino hearts – if they rely on the factual data from economists that shows how low-skilled immigrants do indeed help create more middle-class jobs for natives and contribute to the overall economy.

There is one problem which the GOP has that prevents this from happening – and his name is Lamar Smith. While it is true that Obama is deporting record numbers of immigrants, the Texas congressman penned an op-ed recently that claimed misleadingly that the administration is artificially inflating its deportation numbers. Smith, meanwhile, continues to push for enforcement-only policies through big-government, bureaucratic methods like the E-Verify program and the prison system.

<snip>

The Republican party must learn the lesson of the Reid/Angle election – particularly in the US southwest where Latinos are registering themselves in droves. If Obama does in 2012 what Reid did at the last minute in 2010 in order to woo Latinos to go to the polls, Republicans will rue the day they threw away millions of vital votes.

LATINO VOICES: Lionel Sosa (former Presidential Ronald Reagan advisor) calls the rising anti-immigrant rhetoric “grossly insensitive and irresponsible.”

From Latin Voices authored by Cristina Costantini.  Read entire story here.

The harsh stand on immigration by some GOP candidates surprises Lionel Sosa, a Republican ad man who calls the rising anti-immigrant rhetoric “grossly insensitive and irresponsible.”

Sosa, who has crafted Latino-targeted campaigns for Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and now Newt Gingrich, said the party’s position on the highly contentious issue has taken a dramatic shift.

“The message has gone from immigration is something we should take care of under Ronald Reagan, to immigration is something we should fear,” Sosa said in a phone interview.

He isn’t the only one frustrated by new GOP perspective. Lauro Garza, head of the largest organization of Latino conservatives in Texas, abruptly quit the Republican Party last week, calling the party’s anti-Latino position unbearable. And DeeDee Garcia Blasé, the founder of the same organization, Somos Republicans, said she thinks the party has strayed from what she called “Reagan’s unique compassion for immigrants.”

<snip>

REAGAN REPUBLICANOS

With that message largely missing from today’s Republican party, many moderate and Latino Republicans say they no longer feel their views are being represented by party leaders. Somos Republicans founder Garcia Blase said she joined the Republican Party precisely because of the ideals Reagan expressed.

“I joined the party because of my strong belief in capitalism and national security,” said Garcia Blase, a fifth generation Mexican-American and a former business owner who served in the U.S. Air Force during the senior Bush administration. “But the Republican Party has lost its way.”

She said the current Republican candidates simply don’t trust Latino immigrants.

“They’ve dehumanized the undocumented immigrant, and people that look like them,” Garcia Blase said. “I’m angry that I have to be defending my rights against laws like those in Arizona. I was willing to die for this country, and now I have to defend myself?”

Marco Rubio: “Cuban amnesty for ‘me’, but not for Mexican ‘thee’.”

Marco Rubio: Amnesty for ‘me’ but not for ‘thee’

Here’s the reality.  Mexican-Americans account for almost 70% of the Latin population pie.  However, Cuban-Americans account for 3% of the pie.

Why is Senator Marco Rubio supporting a unique amnesty and government entitlements via the Cuban Adjustment Act afforded to the Cubans (with heavy concentration in Florida), but he damns the rest of the Latino ethnic groups who want to achieve the same American Dream that was afforded to his family?

Will Senator Marco Rubio who claims to be for less government insist on protecting the unique Cuban amnesty and at least one year of government entitlements using our tax payer dollar?

That said, Marco Rubio still has  not officially taken back his support for the Arizona harsh anti-immigrant law where he blamed “just the Mexicans” on drug violence (even though his own brother in law — a Cuban immigrant was busted with one of the biggest drug trafficking violations in Florida history).  It gets worse, Marco Rubio still DOES NOT SUPPORT THE DREAM Act.  We want to see reasonable action, and so far both  Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz  (both of which are Cuban-Americans) support enforcement only policies and “large government policies” via the national e-verify bill.

I support the Cuban Adjustment Act, but I do not support Tea party politicians who forget that their relatives and family had compassion afforded to them.  We are not asking for amnesty with entitlements that are afforded to Cubans via the wet foot dry foot policy, all we are asking for is a secure border plan and legal immigration reform — without the government entitlements. We believe that’s reasonable.

With our plan, there will be less shark deaths and less desert deaths if we promote a healthy and reasonable legal immigration plan from a clearly broken immigration system.  Will Senator Marco Rubio get on right side of the immigration issue and co-sponsor Senator Menendez’s legal immigration bill? Several GOP lawmakers have implemented their version of anti-immigrant laws because they say the federal government has not fixed it.  Since Rubio is part of the federal government system now, he can display leadership at a ‘federal level’ by working towards a broken immigration system alongside Senator Menendez’s bill with a legal immigration reform plan.

Proof SOMOS REPUBLICANS is NOT amnesty as Marco Rubio Cuban Exile history and debacle unfolds and Rubio supporters cry foul.

Recently we learned that John Feehery, a pathetic Republican Strategist called SOMOS REPUBLICANS an amnesty group.

Here is proof  SOMOS is NOT:

12 Steps to Securing Our Borders and Legal Immigration

Why is securing our borders and legal immigration needed?

A healthy and legal immigration solution will secure our borders, create a safer North American Continent and promote a stronger relationship with our contiguous neighbors. Enforcement-only initiatives promote a situation that emulates the failed days of Prohibition, which serves only to encourage the underground labor market. Our government needs the additional tax revenues that new immigrants generate in order to sustain the burgeoning entitlement programs baby boomers require as they continue to retire. By developing a reasonable legal immigration plan, we create a system where immigrants share American tax burdens as they continue to contribute millions of dollars into our tax coffers. New immigrants sharing our tax burdens will help discourage our government from increasing taxes, because under the current system these entitlement programs will drain all federal revenues within 15 years.

Our 12 point plan addresses securing our borders, fixing the immigration system, developing a process for legal immigrants to enter, demand for labor, the D.R.E.A.M Act, sustaining international trade relationships, and employer sanctions that will assuredly be implemented by the current Congress.

National Hispanic GOP Group Hosting “Fireside on Immigration/Utah Compact” Debate

For Immediate Release

25 October 2011

Phoenix, AZ — SOMOS REPUBLICANS will be hosting a FIRESIDE ON IMMIGRATION / Utah Compact discussion and debate with Daryl Williams who is a prominent individual in the State of Arizona and is a respectable lawyer with a practice in the Biltmore area. The essay can be read here.

We hand delivered a letter of invitation to State Senator Russell Pearce’s office on Monday and followed up via email.

We believe this is an important discussion since much confusion is out there with regard to whether or not Pearce fully supports the views of the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Many Mesa residents believe this is important enough to attend as we believe this discussion will clear the confusion within the LDS community.

If Pearce does not show up or make arrangements convenient for him to have this FIRESIDE on IMMIGRATION / Utah Compact, then the show will go on and we will simply have an empty chair with Pearce’s name tag fastened on to it.

Extremists within the Republican Party like Russell Pearce and Joe Arpaio are causing Latinos to flee GOP

We have been warning the Republican Party for years since Tom Tancredo ‘darkened the steps’ of the White House under the George W. Bush Administration.  From Tom Tancredo to Sen. Russell Pearce who is on the record multiple times saying he wants to bring back “Operation Wetback”, and with Joe Arpaio making jokes about the “mysterious Mexican immigrant deaths” in his prison. It’s no wonder why they are leaving ind droves.

Please listen to NPR podcast where SOMOS REPUBLICANS gives the Republican Presidential candidates the key to win back Hispanics.  In the meantime, if the Republican Party continues to embrace the likes of Russell Pearce and Joe Arpaio….then the GOP will be on the path to extinction.

Latino Republicans Find Party A Tough Sell

October 24, 2011

Listen to the Story here.

Mitt Romney Crosses the Line With Latinos Using Vicente Fox (our excellent trade relation partner) for populist purposes

Mitt Romney makes Jon Huntsman look like a saint…er…like Joseph Smith. But what does Mitt Romney and extremist Russell Pearce have in common?

Allow me to number them:

  1. Both are members of the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS), and they continue to make the Mormon church look bad in advocating for “Operation Wetback” type of policies.  Those uncompassionate views are not in alignment with the UTAH COMPACT.  In fact the Mormon Church is on the record for supporting principles of the UTAH COMPACT.
  2. Both have extreme ideas with their large government ideas as they support e-verify policies that put an additional burden on small businesses as it adds another level of bureaucracy.
  3. Both seem to have campaign workers that will manage to find Latinos to do their dirty work for them.  Romney appears to use Marco Rubio.  While Russell Pearce supporters take advantage of Olivia Cortes.

Quote me:

Mitt Romney’s continued anti-immigrant and and anti-Latino rhetoric since he ran against Senator John McCain will send the REPUBLICAN PARTY to  levels of Hispanic voter support that predates the Ronald Reagan era.

Mitt Romney supports Cuban amnesty (Cuban-Americans make up 3% of the total Hispanic population pie), but he damns the rest of the Latinos and Mexican-Americans and will not even support fixing the broken immigration system  (even though Mexican-Americans make up almost 70% of the total Latino population pie).   Since Romney cannot do basic math, he will reap what he sows and receive only 3% of the Latin vote if things come full circle during the general elections.  He is an “amnesty” hypocrite and apparently nobody told him that the birthers and nativists are already attacking Cuban constituents.

Do these Republican Presidential candidates not know they are hurting the Republican Party with their continued rhetoric?

Flip Flopper Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney continues to use a failed strategy that he used against Senator John McCain during the 2008 Republican Presidential Primaries.  Romney’s salaciousness continues, and I remember oh too  well his continued anti-immigrant tactics since before 2008. I just cannot forget how he puts a failed populist approach in demonizing a group of people.  And it is people like Mitt Romney that will continue to cause Latinos to flee the Republican Party.

Mitt Romney has crossed the line and has gone beyond the point of no return with Latino community organizers and leaders. Below he has the audacity to paint Mexico President Vicente Fox in a negative light.  Keep in mind that Mitt Romney is not acting like a good chief in command.  He is not going to be a good leader if he uses wedge issues against a trading partner of ours.  Mexico is a good trading partner of the United States, and for Romney to use Fox in the manner he has in the video against Rick Perry is reprehensible.

Ronald Reagan’s amnesty program is the direct result of an increase in Latino Republican voters, but the likes of Mitt Romney, Herman Cain (advocating deadly electric fences), and Michele Bachmann’s horrific un-pro life remarks as she uses defamatory and offensive terms like “anchor babies” will cause Latinos to flee the GOP.

Both President Ronald Reagan and President George W. Bush received more than 40 percent of the Hispanic vote in their reelection campaigns. Some analysts note that a Republican needs to receive 40 percent of the Latino vote to win the presidency. In fact, for many candidates in 2010, failing to engage the Latino voter cost them the election. So those who appeal to Latino voters early stand a better chance of ending strong.

Mitt Romney will be lucky to get double digit support from Latinos as we fully intend to equate him to Russell Pearce and Joe Arpaio of Arizona.  In fact, Romney made it a point to make Arpaio his chair when he ran against John McCain in 2008. The best chances the Republican has to have some level of Hispanic support is via Newt Gingrich or Rick Perry.  And, that’s the bottom line, folks.
