MEDIA ADVISORY

“Anchor Baby” is Derogatory, Too, Rep. Curry Todd and We Demand an Apology

For Immediate Release
16 November 2010

Phoenix, AZ — On November 12, 2010, SOMOS REPUBLICANS demanded an apology from State Representative, Curry Todd, for his derogatory remarks that liken “illegal immigrants to rats”. We did not receive a contrite apology from him and instead we received more atrocious language when Todd told the Associated Press that he meant to say “anchor babies”.

Since when do Republican officials who claim to be pro life use such defamatory language attached to babies? We believe officials like Curry Todd are hypocrites. This sort of defamation appears to be rising in the form of men attacking precious American-born children and their mothers. This rhetoric is not new as we have seen this inappriopriate behavior from State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, Congressman Steve King, former Congressman Tom Tancredo, Senator Jim Inhoffe, Congressman Jack Kingston and so forth.

SOMOS REPUBLICANS are working very hard to restore the soul of our Party, and it is these types of views that make it hard for us to grow our tent. For the second time, we are demanding that Curry Todd give a contrite apology to the Hispanic community, or resign and leave the GOP.
