Phoenix, AZ Arizona Hispanic Republicans believe that Russell Pearce’s SB 1070 is essentially bringing back ‘Operation Wetback’ to life – an old 1950’s idea. In 2006, Rep. Pearce, R-Mesa, said during an interview on “Morning Edition” on KJZZ (91.5 FM) that he would support bringing back a controversial federal program dubbed “Operation Wetback,” which was designed to apprehend and deport illegal Mexican immigrants in the mid-1950s.  (Sarah Lynch (2006, September 29) Pearce Calls On ‘Operation Wetback’ For Illegals. Retrieved April 17, 2010, from East Valley Tribune: http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/75335 ).

We are currently witnessing parents being ripped apart from their children as local authorities are leaving American born children behind with their neighbors as their parents get jailed then deported.  Arizona lawmakers are not considering the unintended consequences of mass proportions.  As parents get deported back to Latin America, Mexico and other countries, Arizona lawmakers are not considering nor are they taking proactive measures for the welfare of the American born children that are left behind.

Where will the American born children go when authorities take their parents?

Does the State of Arizona have shelter readily available and food prepared for the children who are being ripped apart from their parents that are being jailed and deported?

Who will pay for the welfare of these children who are left behind as a result of Pearce’s SB 1070 Bill?

How much will it cost the State of Arizona to support the American born children who are left behind?

Arizona Hispanic Republicans are staunch Republicans because we are very strong when it comes to the “Sanctity of Life”, however, SB 1070 is one of the most inhumane approaches to ripping undocumented parents apart from their children.  SB 1070 has no respect for the lives of American born children who are being ripped apart from their parents as they get deported.  We believe that animals get better treatment and SB 1070 goes against the core of Republican principles as it pertains to life, family values, and our  economic values.

Arizona Hispanic Republicans believe that SB 1070 will create havoc as the unintended consequences unfold to American born children that will need shelter, food, clothing, education, and more as their parents get jailed and deported.

If Jan Brewer signs the SB 1070 Bill,  she will be remembered as the woman who helped support Russell Pearce’s vision of bringing back an old 1950’s idea — Operation Wetback.

  1. John Moore says:

Dear Sen. Pearce: My name is John and I live in Texas. As much as I love my Mother, who lives in Tucson, she will now have to visit me. I will not visit your State or spend one penny on anything made there. If I have to drive through Arizona, I will fill up in New Mexico. I pray others will do the same. You haven’t the ability to think beyond the end of your nose. Our corn subsidies totaled $56.2 billion from 1995-2006. Thousands of Mexican farmers went out of business. In search of work they migrated to the border to to find employment at the maquiladoras, where today they earn on average $60.00 per week. But evidently that is too much for American Corporations to pay as 400 of these plants have closed since China joined the WTO in 1999. If every Mexican citizen left your State or refused to visit, as I hope they do, your economy would go right down the crapper. Then short sighted people such as yourself can be afforded a well deserved pay cut. Sincerely: John
